Hello. I Have Sciatica Running Down My Left Leg Through

Hello. I have sciatica running down my left leg through my outside shin into the foot and toe. I've been diagnosed with L5 movement that will require surgery. The nerve is being pinched through my L5 problem. There is a "dead zone" on the lower left outside shin that has itched for some time and now has discoloration. about an inch long. What would cause the skin to become reddish along the "dead zone". I am scheduled for back surgery later this summer, however, do I need to see my neurologist about the skin issues sooner?
