Hiccups After Meals. Endoscopy And Colonoscopy Done. Diagnosed For Hiatal Hernia. On Triple Antibiotic Therapy. Polyp Removed. Hiccups Related To The Problems?

Hi,since last 2 days my husband is getting hiccups after eating his meal and it lasts around 8 to 12 hours. He had endoscopy and colonoscopy done 4 months back.He was diagnosed with hiatal hernia and was on triple antibiotic therapy for 15 days and had one adenomatous polyp removed from large colon. My question is that, has the hiccups something to do with that? or is it the sign of beginning something? Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Hiccups may be due to .
Irritation of diaphragm , irritation of diaphragm is due to hyper acidity ( hiatus hernia) . When stomach dilates it causes irritation upwards to diaphragm and this develops hiccups .
So you need not to worry about that .
These measures will provide relief from hiccups.
Try raising the head of your bed 4 inches above with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for 2 hours before you lie down. To help control stomach acid one should not drink alcohol or drinks caffeine in them or greasy , spicy or chocolates or junk foods. Take antacid ( oxetacaine in them good for your husband) but if hiccups very severe you may need proton pump inhibitors with above mentioned antacid.
Take above mentioned measures and your husband will get complete relief.
Good luck. Dr. HET
