High BP. On Metoprolol And Lisinopril. Is Something Wrong With The Treatment?
My doctor prescribed for me today for high B P Aldacctone. I did not pick it up. I am already taking metoprol 25mg., HCTZ, lisinopril. Dr changed Metoprol to 50mg about a week ago. It changed nothing. B.P. at levels between 190/95-----optomitrist 169/111. I had a brother died from a stroke because they could do nothing about his B P. I am 84 years old and live alone. My heart doctor did not return my call for he last to days. I am considering considering changing doctors. Had eye exam and that is the reason for his checking. He said, "Get something done about your B.P. C an you please help me? Thank you. Ruth M. Hester rhester76@ WWW.WWWW.WW

General & Family Physician, Dr. Praveen's Response
Hi.Thanks for writing us on HCM. Your have stage 2 hypertension(BP >160 sytolic).Blood pressure has to be adequately controlled to avoid the events like stroke, heart attack etc.If your BP is not controlled by 2 drugs then triple drug combination will help.Addition of aldactone(a diuretic spirinolactone) will reduce/achieve target BP and keeps an adequate check.Start using aldactone as prescribed by your doctor along with other anti hypertensive medication.Hope this helps.Take care.
