Last two months, I have swelling of ankle and feet. Echo Test etc are Normal. No problem with Kidney, but calcium deposits in Gall Bladder. Please advise me if I need to immediately discontinue Telmisartan? If so, which is preferred?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Madam
Swelling of ankle & feet is a common side effect of drugs like amlodipine. This is because of their effect on peripheral blood vessels (dilatation). .
Other possible reason could be deteriorating renal functions under the effect of telmisartan. But I hope you have been worked out for that.
I would recommend you to discuss it out with your cardiologist and get a suitable alternative. There are a number of other drugs and combination which can be used.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Cardiologist Dr. Haseeb Ashraf's  Response
Thanks for your question

Blood pressure medicines and ankle swelling:

Amlodipine is the drug which causes swelling in the feet but telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide is the one which reduces the swelling caused by amlodipine, therefore you need not a discontinue any medicine as your blood pressure is still above normal.

You should consult your doctor so that he may order you renal function tests and urine complete examination to rule out any other cause of swelling.

Hope that answers your question
