High Lipid Profile Test, Have BP Issues. On Atorvastatin And Omega Capsules. Avoid Increased Dosage?

Myself - Male age 41. I have family history of CVD. I am on medication since last 6 yrs for moderately high lipid profile (LDL was 152 units) . After taking atorvastatin 5 my lipids are totally in control. I have also made lifestyle changes though I am not regularly exercising. Moreover I take BP lowering medicine to keep BP under control. Recently my doc advised me to check Lipoprotein(a)or Lp(a) test in addition to Lipid profile. Though other parameters like LDL, Triglyceride, HDL are good but Lp(a) result showed 192 units ( which is supposed to be within 30 units). My doctor advised me to take Omega-3 capsules and increased dosage of Atorvastatin to 10mg. Pls advise whether this is good for me or I can make further lifestyle changes to avoid the increase dose of medicine.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Few years back lipid value were 160-190 mg/dl ,now the scientific study says that this value is 160-220 mg .
In my patient I usually consider 190 mg upper limit .
In your case this is ( as in your query ) upper limit , that's why your doctor advised you to increase the dose .
Omega -3 capsule will also decrease the lipid value.
In my opinion you should not take , fat diet , greasy food , spicy food . Avoid tension , regular exercise will keep you healthy.
If you think that your life style is responsible for lipid elevation then change it.
Deal according to the advise of your treating doctor.
Good luck. Dr. HET
