History Of Heart Attack And Surgery. Taking Metropropol And Plavix. Weight Loss. Second Opinion?

I am 66 male that had heart attack and four bypass surgery April 1 this year. No prior problem and very active person although 30 lbs overweight. Placed on metropropol 25mg twice a day and Plavix . Lost 30 lbs on improved diet. Recovering great after surgery and appears no heart damage after heart attack, Rehab going well but on one day May 25 in heavy workout went a-fib a few times . Card. doctor recommended heart monitor for 30 days. No a-fil during this time period. On July 21 again in heavy workout went a-fib once for less than 10 seconds. Now Doctor wants me to start amiodarone and I have serious concerns after reading about this drug. Should I get a second opinion or wait for more frequent a-fil occurrences.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Atrial fibrillation can lead to problems like uncontrolled ventricular rate (which may precipitate failure).
Embolism is a serious threat.
Hence rhythm control is aimed. / if it is not possible, rate control and anticoagulation are needed

Maximising the dose of metoprolol could be tried first...
Electrophysiological Study with a view for ablation can be tried...
Amiodarone is a good drug for this / need to watch......

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
