Hoe Does Exchanges Work During Diabetes?

I just learned I had type 2 diabetes 2 days ago. I have been reading some of the literature he gave me to read about diabetes, carbs, etc. The major thing I'm unable to get through to my brain is:
What is the purpose of exchanges?
How do I figure exchanges - how they work out?

Dear sir i can understand you concern.
three things are important in diabetes
1.balanced and healthy diet....remember No fasting no feasting
2.daily exercise for min 45 mins may be simple walking to heavy weight exercise depending on your age
3.taking both food and medication in time
over all this try to minimize stress.....
