Home BP Monitor Showed 140/100, Heart Rate Around 55. Suggest

Hello Doctor,
I am a 31 year old male, about 265 lbs. I am currently going back to school to become a RN after my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. So, I am trying to stay as knowledgeable as possible on things and my health. I have a reputable home BP monitor and have taken it several times this last week. I have noticed that my blood pressure has been around 140/100. I also have noticed that my heart rate has been right around 55. What should I do?

Hi, it appears that you have manual B.P. apparatus, if so there is every possibility of getting a wrong reading by self examination. If it is electronic apparatus, you can rely on the instrument.
Any how ever when you have doubt , it is better to consult a cardiologist for diagnosis and treatment and to exclude cardiac involvement.
Thank you.

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

See an Internist / get yourself examined / at times, basic investigation may be necessary...
EKG / HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring) / ECHOcardiogram / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.

You ought to reduce your weight...

You may need treatment and follow up
The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing all well
God bless
Good luck
