Hormone Replacement Therapy. Had Hysterectomy. Have Had Estradiol And Premarin. Can They Be Taken Together?
i have had estradiol 1mg. for hrt for about 3 years after being on the low dose patch since 1996 following a total hysterectomy. Is the formulation exactly the same?i have just started on premarin instead of the patch or the estradiol. Is the formulation the same as estradiol? Does it matter which hrt i take orally as the patch's adhesive is too painful on my skin.
Hi, Thanks for the query. Transdermal patch contains estradiol and premarin contains conjugated estrogen. Both will help in reducing the postmenopausal symptoms due to deficiency of estrogen. Depending on the dose of the estrogen being taken, the effects and side effects can differ. So better to take as much low dose as possible. And better to limit the period of usage for 5 to 6 years. Regular physical examination, ultrasound examination and mammography are needed while being on hormone replacement therapy. Better to use phytoestogens supplements as per as possible. Taking diet rich in phytoestogens like soya, beans etc will help in decreasing the need for hormone replacement therapy. Take care.
