How Can sore Throat Along With Throat Pain Be Treated?

Hi, I've had a sore throat as in like I have to brace myself to swallow as it hurts so badly. I went to my doctor he did a strep test which came back negative but he put me on a Z Pac, well another week and a half goes by and I'm still in the same pain if not worse, go back to doc he does another strep and flu test ( both came back negative ) also did some blood work and mono test came back negative. Only other symptoms I have are soreness in my ears ( which he checked and said they looked fine ) , I have no fever, no drainage... I'm just at a loss as to what it could be, going on 3 weeks now

Thanks for raising your concern on this platform:

1. consult an ENT Surgeon who will inspect the throat with a good torch and tongue depressor for:

- If the tonsils are red and inflmmed with tender tonsillar lymph nodes below te angle of mandible, then it is acute tonsillitis

- If the entire throat i.e. posterior pharyngeal wall is inflamed, then it could be pharyngitis

- If there are inflamed rough granules over the posterior pharyngeal wall, it is granular pharungitis [chronic]

- As strept throat/flu test and mono test came back negative thus are excluded [make sure that white patch in diptheria is also rule out

2. If above viral and bacterial infections are both exclude with examination then it could be Allergic, till then:

- steam inhalations and saline water gargles
- drink plenty of warm fluids like soup, tea and lukewarm water
- avoid allergens like smoke/chemicals,dust, cold drinks, fried foods
- take throat lozenges
- use over the counter [OTC] medicine like Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and Paracetamol [painkiller and antipyretic]

3. As you have soreness in ear, again the ENT surgeon will determine whether it is due to external/middle or internal ear pathology, till then put otrivin nasal drops in the nose
