How Can COPD And Emphysema Be Treated?

Hi, I am 54 years old, I have stage 3 COPD with emphysema, also, IPF which is progressing rapidly, here s my problem, I have 5 different doctors and each one of them will not take responsibility for my pain comfort, go see this one to see that one, each passing the buck onto the next one, while I sit home in such pain I have overdosed twice on Tylenol, because nothing else worked, it seems no one cares about patients pain, all they are concerned about are there own butts not getting sued, I d like to live my last day with my family and children, but it s difficult as I m always in bed Susie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [pulmonologist] and to know exact status do few tests like [Spirometry, Echocardiogram, and CT scan].

2) Do take all prescribed medication for COPD and for [IPF] if already taken medication for and Oxygen therapy then final treatment will be [Lung transplantation].

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to stop smoking. If you have lung disease, the best thing you can do for yourself is to stop smoking.

2) Eat well. A nutritionally rich diet that contains adequate calories is essential. A dietitian can give you further guidelines for healthy eating.

3) Get vaccinated. Respiratory infections can worsen symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis. Make sure you receive the pneumonia vaccine and an annual flu shot. Your family members must also be vaccinated, and you should avoid crowds in flu season.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
