Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hello,
Acid reflux is a common side effect of many antibiotics. Firstly, try to drink a cup of water every time you take an antibiotic, remain upright position about an hour after taking them. Also, you can take certain antibiotics (ciprofloxacin) with a food to decrease acid reflux.
Your doctor may also prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class of medicines (Omeprazole, Lansoprazole) to suppress acid secretion, but PPIs should be taken cautiously while you are on multiple antibiotics as it may cause C. difficile associated diarrhea.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Malik Amonov
