How Can HPV Infection Be Prevented From Spreading?

I tested positive for HPV. My immune system is compromised due to AML. My current boy friend and I have been sexually active for over a year now. I understand there s no way of knowing if I caught it from him or if it s my immune system. My question is, if we were to break up and he has another sexual relationship is his new female partner is danger of contracting HPV? Is his something I should advise him of?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The HPV virus is usually transmitted through sexual intercourse. So, in such a case there is a risk of transmission.

I would recommend your boyfriend to use protection with condoms during intercourse. I suggest getting the HPV vaccine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
