How Can Hashimoto S Disease Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto s some years ago I had been taking 112 mcg 6 days a week. On Jan. 30 the value of TSH was 9.56  u/U/ml.  Free T4 1.2 ng/dl my prescription was changed to 112 mcg 6 days plus 2 on the 7th day. I am female and almost 73, and I am  concerned about taking what seems like a very large dose on 1 day.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hashimoto's disease is a condition in which your immune system attacks your thyroid, a small gland at the base of your neck below your Adam's apple.

The thyroid gland is part of your endocrine system, which produces hormones that coordinate many of your body's functions.

Your TSH is still not under normal range, which is why your doctor might have been advised high dosage.

Our primary goal is to keep TSH levels under control. A dose may be given equally distributed throughout the week.

Avoid cabbage, cauliflower, and smoking. Please consult your endocrinologist so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
