How Can I Get Prescription Of Premarin And Progesterone To Avoid Hyposmia?

I took Premarin and natural, compounded Progesterone from age 45 through age 75. When I stopped, I developed hyposmia. It was recommended by my gynecologist that I take these hormones life-long, but with the negative research studies (done on chemical hormone replacements, not natural ones) it is difficult to find a doctor who will prescribe the today.

Patients are often confused by the intensive advertising about what is natural and what is synthetic. At the recent North American Menopause Society meeting one of the lecturers told us that she always tells her patients all hormone replacement is plant-based and then put up a nice slide of a pharmaceutical plant with smokestacks. You have used Premarin and progesterone for many years without problem. the dose that you require probably can be lessened as you metabolize it slower and your circulating volume is likely to be less.
I don't understand why you would really want to change to a different combination or estrogen if these have worked well for you.
And I do not think you should be confused by all of the research. Overall healthy patients on hormone replacement therapy have a lower all cause mortality. you will probably be reassured to know that the North American Menopause Society no longer recommends an upper age limit for for hormone replacement therapy. It is well recognized approximately 15% of women will have lifelong symptoms and many of them will require some form of hormonal therapy in order to maintain a good quality-of-life.
Also women who did not experience cardiac problems on hormone replacement in the first two years were not at higher risk than the general population for heart disease if they continue to therapy.
And keep in mind there are lots of things that are natural that we want no part of such as tooth decay and body odor. I hope this answer helps reassure you and that you soon are feeling better.
