How Can I Help The Scaly Skin In Melisma Patches And What Is The Treatment For Psoriasis?

Hello Doctor

I am going through a lot with my face. I have been diagnosed with Melasma but for the past couple of months I have noticed I have scaly skin in the melisma patches now I believe I have psoriasis now. I have tried moisturizers and soaps but not it has made brown spots appear on my face. Can you please tell me what is happening to me?

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the problem Melasma. You have not told us your age, sex and occupation so that a better help could be provided.

In melasma there is over-activity of melanocytes at epidermal and dermal region. Melanocytes are the color producing cells of skin which causes superficial and deep pigmentation which may appear as pigmentation in melasma.

Lightening agents such as Kojic acid or azelaic acid or Hydroquinone cream application which you can use under dermatological guidance.Eat healthy diet containing lot of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Do not try applying over the counter products as these can further aggravate the situation. Protect yourself form direct sunlight. Use a good sunscreen on exposed area for 2-3 times and drink plenty of liquids everyday.

Do not correlate psoriasis with melasma as are totally different entities. In psoriasis there are scaly lesion which are raise form skin surface. SO take your anxiety out for psoriasis.

All the best.
