How Can I Manage My Medication When Morphine Causes Severe Side Effects And Meperidine Was Previously Effective?
I am a Kaiser patient. I was on Demerol (Meperidine) for 41 years because it did not constipate me, and I also have wet age-related macular degeneration. Kaiser told me Demerol had been discontinued. I was receiving generic Meperidine 50 mg. The switched me to Morphine and I became constipated and hemorrhaged in my right-eye, resulting in the removal of my eye. 30 mg Morphine reduces pain from 10 to maybe an eight, and I now take MiriLax three times a day, but I risk hemorrhage in my remaining eye. Kaiser tells me meperidine is available but will not prescribe it, although they prescribed it from 2002 to 2015 with no side effects other than zero constipation. Can you verify meperidine is available?
