How Can ITP Be Treated?

Hello Doctor. My mother age 54 is recently diagnosed with ITP with platlet count at 12k today morning. She had been recovered from 2K plattlets 3 days before and was being treated with IVIG since then. Now my question is that IVIG is used to slow the proccess of immune system. But on the other hand we are giving her coconut water. Is it being contradictory ? Any other suggestion for early recovery, please suggest. Thanks. Nitin

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor Service. I reviewed your query and here is my answer.
If her platelet count is increasing with that IVIG, Then continue with it till it rise to at least 30k, and then you can stop of she is asymtomatic. But if she is not responding, then steroids can be considered for her. Otherwise spleenectomy will be the last option if she is not responding. But you have to take medication if her platelet count is going up to at least 30k. Then stopping treatment can be considered.
Hope i answer your question. Feel free to ask of i can help further. Thanks.
