How Can Lyme Disease Be Treated?

I am 72 years old, and have taken doxycycline for 3 week, because I have Lyme disease. That was a month ago. The symptoms of Lyme have returned, even though I have been using black walnut extract and an infection formula. Should I go back to an antibiotic? I have heard that once you take an antibiotic, herbal treatments are not effective. What should I do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Regarding your concern, I would explain that it is important taking antibiotics for a prolonged time. For this reason, I recommend consulting with a specialist of this disease and discussing about starting antibiotics again, doxycycline or intravenous ceftriaxone. This is a chronic infection, which may be active for a long time in your body and you may need antibiotics time after time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
