How Can MCH Levels Be Improved In An Anemic?

Hello doctor, I just had blood work done and my mch is a bit low. How can i increase my mch levels? I am anemic and have been having heavy periods. I was scheduled for a hysterectomy but my surgery was canceled as the hospital was at 140% over capacity. I should take iron pills, but forget to take them sometimes.

Hello,

Low MCH means that your red blood cells have less hemoglobin than usual and this most of the times is due to iron deficiency especially in women with heavy periods and blood loss.
To improve the MCH you will need to get some iron tablets regularly for 3-6 months. Your doctor may prescribe it for you and may need to do regular follow up visits and CBC check to make sure the indexes are improving.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
