How Can PCOS With Painful And Irregular Periods Be Treated?

I am a 23 year diagnosed with PCOS. I haven't been using any oral contraceptives but would like to start. I heard that when you use Trigestrel or any other contraceptive, you can delay your period. How does that happen because my periods are very painful and uncomfortable as well as irregular. Regards N
