Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our neighbor has been diagnosed with Parkinson s. She has no living family. My husband is her POA. He and I are very interested in helping her in any way we can. Is this disease fatal? She stays confused, more so late in the evening and at night. She has gotten to where she can not walk, even with her walker. Any info you could share with us we would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
First of all it's sad to know what your neighbor had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, it is a must that she should have a detailed and regular follow up with a neurologist as treatment needs to be optimised at regular intervals and many treatment options can help symptomatically which include drugs like Carbidopa Levodopa combination and MAO inhibitors as well as drugs used to reduce spasticity or tremors but all need strict follow up as serious side effects are associated which need to be monitored.
Though management is a long process but the intention you have for her is so good. Support and nursing can help the patient significantly and your care can be pivotal.
Wishing her a better health sooner.
Regards
