How Can Venlafaxine HCL ER Be Weaned Off?

i have been taking Venlafaxine hcl er for 4 months and I am now feeling tired, I am easily agitated, and Dizzy. I was on Floxatine for many years and had little to no side effects. I switched when my brother passed away because I felt I was not able to feel the emotions that should have been normal mourning My question is how can I stop taking Venlafaxine asap?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I have read your query and I can understand your problem. You want to wean off from Venlafaxine. Venlafaxine is a SNRI drug and this drug cause increased concentration of nor epinephrin and serotonin at receptors levels. So when abruptly stopped withdrawal symptoms are seen. This is the reason for tapering the doses. Usually in my clinic I ask my patients to decrease the doses of venlafaxine about 20-25% every two weeks and then stopping completely at about 8 weeks. When tapered in this way the severe withdrawal is prevented. Consult your psychiatrist for details.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
