How Can A Arm IV Vein With Hardness And Puffing Be Treated?

My daughter had Gallbladder surgery about 3 weeks ago. Of course she had an IV and now the vein in the crease of her right arm seems puffy and slightly hard. Just a small size, about the size of a pea.Is this normal and will it just take care on it's own?

Hi and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your query.
In most cases this is self limiting and this is called thrombophlebitis. It can be treated by elastic cimpresses and icing and ibuprofenum 400mg daily. It should improve within few days. If not, you should do Doppler ultrasound to rule out deep vein thrombosis.
Wish you good health. Regards
