How Can A Blood Clot In The Leg Be Treated?

What is the treatment for a blood clot in my leg? I was told I had a DVT in my leg years ago but had no problem with it. I had a hip replacement a year ago and was having pain in my hip and I thought it was my hip but now I am starting to think it is the DVT. My wife is a nurse and she told me that I need to get a ultrasound for the next step. but what is the treatment for this clot?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Some advice that I can give to you is:

-Use prescribed anticoagulant medications that thin the blood, and prevent further clots.
-Wear loose-fitting clothes, socks, or stockings.
-Raise your legs 6 inches above your heart from time to time.
-Wear special stockings (called compression stockings).
-Do exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
