How Can A Bruised Finger Be Treated?

I was cleaning house in July 2017, and I injured the middle finger in my right hand, I was pushing a sponge into the crease of a sofa to clean out the dust balls. while pushing down, I hit the wood in the joint of the sofa. my finger is now swollen, slight bruising/ discoloration under the skin, i am now moving my finger and it is soar every day. when i put it in a splint, it feels good but I work daily and I have to type everyday so I cannot put it in a splint all day long. As for the finger, could I have injured the cartelidge between the finger bones? because the finger is moving fine, just really soar and still swollen for the last four months.. Aida

Hello Aida !

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to inflammation or a pinched nerve in the finger, due to the trauma.
I don't think that it is a matter of cartilage as the finger movements are preserved, based on what you refer.
For this reason, I recommend performing an X ray study of the hand, a nerve conduction study to examine the nerves and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation).
Meanwhile, I recommend you to move this finger as much as you can.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
