How Can A Bump On The Inner Lip Be Treated?

I recently had the flu and passed out while in the restroom. I feel hitting my lip on the tub and my teeth went thru the right bottom portion of my lip. I went to urgent care and received stitches. This happened on Feb. 1st and the lip has healed nicely but there is still a bump on the inside of my lip. Will this take more time to heal or should I be seen by a oral surgeon?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As you have got injury to the lip there is a possibility that there is a hematoma formation due to trauma to small blood vessels that leads to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues.

Many a times the hematoma becomes firm and encapsulated and take some time to get resolved gradually.

Another cause can be Mucous cyst or Mucocele formation..

So first of all you should get it clinically checked.

In case if it is a hematoma you can wait and wait for some time and hopefully it will gradually resolve on its own.
Doing alternate warm and cool compresses can help.

In case if it is due to mucocele formation the doing concentrated salt water rinses will help in its resolution..
If it still does not improve then surgical removal is advisable.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
