How Can A Cyst In The Under Arm Be Treated?

Several years ago, I developed a cyst in my underarm. It ruptured, but afterwards left a small opening in the fold of my underarm. When I went to my doctor to get the hole stitched shut, she said the episode was a fissure, and that it wouldn t be just as simple as sewing the hole shut; I would have to see a dermatologist as there would be parts of the fissure that would need to be removed. She said most people with fissures just leave them, so that s what I did. However, I d really like to clear/close the whole thing up. Any guidance on what to do would be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is not fissure but it is fistula. It should be excised whole. You should meet a X-ray technician for fistulography where a dye will be injected in it to see the track on X-ray and then it has to removed by surgeon. Simplly putting stitch on opening will not help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
