Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
4 years ago, i got a dog bite in my right leg. It did not bleed, just two marks maybe because of his teeth. I am wearing jeans that time. I immediately wash it with soap even if it did not make any wounds, just a scratch in the skin. And the dog was a dormitory dog i didn't know if it was vaccinated, but when u got to a doctor, he just gave me an anti-tetano shot. Lately i heard that rabies can occur up to 7 years after the bite. Do i need to worry?
Washing wound immediately with soap and water gives upto 70% protection from infection. Secondly the bite was through jeans,if there was no tear in it at site of bite, chances of infection become more minimal as there was no contact with dog's saliva. If the dog is still living and observable, then chances of rabies is negligible.
Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask any more query.
