Yes thank you, My son was in a car wreck and we found that he has a broke collar bone. His break is close to the ball joint bone. The dr. decided to place him in a straight jacket type sling for about 3-4 weeks in order to see if the tendons and muscles will make the bone reconnect without surgery. dr. said if not they may have to place a plate that they would have to curve around the bones to hold it together. From my understanding it would seriously implate his ability to use his arm and shoulder. I am out of state from him and unable to ask his dr anything about what an dhow he may heal. Can you please give me some idea what we may have to deal with. Thank you. A picture of a collar bone beak would help me understand
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Collar bone(clavicle) fracture is quite common following trauma. In most cases it will heal without surgery by simple conservative measures like clavicle brace. A doctor will put him on brace and take a check X-ray, if not united surgery may be advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
