How Can A Fractured Shin Bone Be Treated?

Wondering how how long before one can weight bear with a proximal tibial nondisplaced fracture. The leg is currently in an immobilization splint from foot to upper thigh. Plan to see orthopaedic surgeon in a few days. Hoping surgery not necessary. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Fracture to heal would take 6 weeks.
On weight bearing bones, it would take about 3 months to heal completely. Kindly consult orthopedician at the earliest, who would decide the mode of treatment as to need for surgery or not after examining the affected part along with the correlation with X-ray.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
