How Can A Ganglion Cyst On The Right Knee Be Removed?

I recently had an MRI on my inner right knee area. Is a mass about 3 X 2 inches. Result was a ganglion cyst and my doc said I might want to see a orthopedic Dr. I took a fall in Nov. so that may have caused it. Can any surgeon handle it, if it requires surgery and do you recommend I see an Orthopedic doc? I m 75 yrs old. Thanks

Hi,

A ganglion cyst is a non-cancerous lump, which is fluid filled with gel-like material, often on the tendons or joints.

Treatment can often be non-surgical. If the cyst becomes painful, limits activity, or is otherwise unacceptable, the following treatment options are available.

An aspiration can be performed to remove the fluid from the cyst and decompress it. If non-surgical options fail to provide relief or if the cyst recurs, surgical alternatives are available.

Surgery involves removing the cyst along with a portion of the joint capsule or tendon sheath.

If can be performed both traditional open or by arthroscopic techniques, and they usually yield good results.

For this, you need to be examined clinically and hence you need to consult Orthopedician for further evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
