How Can A Heart Puncture Occur During Ablation?

during a heart ablation my heart was punctured. I also have a hole between the two upper chambers. Did the puncture spread open the heart muscle a little, or does it close back up? How can a doctor accidently puncture the heart? I suffered temporary peralysis for about a month afterwards.did it bleed?

Your body has systems design to close the type of hole that occurs during an ablation. An ablation is done by touching part of the heart with a catheter. The catheter produces local changes that kill the tissue. Parts of the heart are very thin, sometimes only a few millimeters. Therefore, a puncture is one of the complications that sometimes occurs and is not always avoidable. Once closed, it will heal.
The pre existing hole is unrelated to the one created by the catheter and was not likely changed but only your doctor who performed the procedure can answer accurately.
