How Can A Laceration On The Wrist Be Treated?

I have a laceration on my inner wrist. It’s about 3 inches long but I’m not sure about how deep. Not deep enough to need stitches but enough to keep the edges from touching when it was cut. The middle of the cut is deeper than the rest. It stopped bleeding pretty quickly but this morning I have had pain up the right side of my inner elbow. There’s no pain around the laceration other than tenderness to touch and no pain in my hand. Do I need to see a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The laceration of the inner wrist which you have sustained luckily is not deep enough to require suturing. However it is open and daily aseptic dressing is required to prevent it getting infected, causing further complications.
Mupirocin ointment is good. The fact that you are having pain in the elbow region denotes any spread of bacterial inflammation, which may require antibiotics. It is best that you consult a General surgeon who can examine you and advise you on the proper therapy.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
