How Can A Neck Injury Be Treated?

my grandson had a neck injury last Wednesday while vacationing. It was a large wave that caused it. I do not know much about the details but tonight, 5 days later was admitted to the hospital. All the details I know are that it is C-6 involved and is scheduled for neck/ spinal surgery either Wed or Thursday. Should they be waiting this long to do this surgery. The real bad pain started about 9 hours ago. I feel that surgery should be done asap. do you recommend specialists for this kind of surgery in Connecticut or New York. We want the best. He is 17 years old. Thank you!

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there is a lot of swelling in the injured area, they may be waiting for it to be reduced so that they can more accurately perform the procedure.

Swelling can sometimes affect outcome.

In terms of specialists, there is a website called healthgrades.com that lists specialists in different areas of medicine according to their location.
It also has ratings on the different doctors so that can get an idea on competency

I hope this helps
