How Can A Painful Ankle Sprain Be Treated?

Hello, I sprained my ankle one week ago. My foot is bruised and swollen. I have iced it and elevated it for a week. It is still painful. The ankle hurts when I twist it. I did not get an xray because I don t think it s broken. I am taking ibuprofen. Is there anything else that I can do? How long should I expect for this to be sore? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and would like to tell that a sprained ankle is generally treated with rest, icing and painkillers. Since you have already done icing and taken painkiller s you should also make sure to limit movement at the ankle joint. For that you can use an elastic bandage or ankle splint. If you still don't recover ,I would advise you to get an X Ray of the ankle joint and consult with an orthopaedic. Physiotherapy also helps to recover early. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
