General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history of a hard, tender lump in front of ear, popping of a vein on touch.
All this indicates this to be a lymph node called pre-auricular lymph node.
Needs proper investigations:
CT scan of the area.
FNAC that is Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology.
Other tests of blood and so on to know the cause.
Opinion of a general or ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and correlate with the investigations reports.
This will decide the treatment as per the cause found.
Till then:
Do not fondle the area as this can increase the edema in the lump as well as surrounding.
Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. T Chandrakant,
ENT & General Surgeon
