How Can A Painful Red Streak On The Arm Be Treated?
I work outside, today as I was cleaning some daylilies I got some sort of irritant on my arm - not sure if it is from a chemical, an insect, or an irritating plant. It is not poison ivy. There are no blisters, its just like a streaky red mark that feels almost like a burn -- it just stings, no itching. I ve tried washing it with soap, water, technu, I even went swimming in the ocean. Still feels very burn-y. It hasn t swollen or spread since this afternoon. Any ideas?
Hi. As per your case history you are having insect bite dermatitis. My treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
