How Can A Painful Skin Crack Above The Anus Be Treated?

Hi. I have just noticed an open scratch/cut in the crack above my anus. It is sore when the cheeks are spread for example when sitting on the toilet. I have put sudocrem on it. I have been itching the last few days so assuming it is this. Any advice? Many thanks

Hi,

This looks like an allergy of that area (eczema). it causes dryness and itching which can lead to cracks. You may use some topical steroids on it a few times a day, besides, keep it wet with emollient, and avoid scratching it.

Avoid any irritant that may sometimes cause this allergy, if you think that might have caused it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
