I fell and shattered my left wrist 72 yrs of age. Taken to UCD - surgery performed next day due to it being broken so bad. broke it on August 23.stitches have been removed - 2 plates installed. Open wound. Wrist very hot and painful. Tylenol just isn t cutting it for very long. don t want to have heavy drugs due to me driving. Live alone. Don t think the hot wrist is normal - what can I do to help sleep and make it feel better.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* According to my long surgical experience, there is inflammation at the wrist post surgery.

* I recommend alternate application of heating pad and ice pack for best pain relief along with current medicines.

* Do remain in contact with your doc for regular follow up.

Hope I have answered your query.
