How Can A Painful Vaginal Skin Tag Be Treated?

I am 5 months postpartum and I recently discovered that I have a piece of skin (blood red in color) hanging from vagina. I had a second-degree tear and when I went for my 6-week check up the doctor said everything was fine. It is also painful when my husband and I have intercourse. What do you think that the piece of skin could be? Why do you think that intercourse is painful?
