How Can A Perineal Tear Be Treated?

I am a 72 year old lady with a hysterectomy twenty years ago. I weigh 125 and 5 ft tall. Doctor gave me a hysterectomy when I had a large colon and IBS. I ve been to doctor s about the pain or dryness, but nothing has helped. I believe it has to do with my very first bowl movement after surgery. I believe it ripped some where between my bowels and vagina. How can I see if it is a rip?? I ve been putting up with this for twenty years and it is just getting to affect my life style. Hurts when I set a certain way or get in and out of a car. Please help me to diagnose this problem. Susan

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
i can understand your concern. Hysterectomy 20 years back should not be causing pain in the peri- anal region now. Based on your complaints it doesnt seem to be any fistula( connection between vagina and rectum).
Most probably, you would be having a fresh anal fissure or hemorrhoids. Your doctor would easily identify it by a physical examination and a per rectal examination.
I would suggest you to eat lots of fresh fruits and foods rich in fiber. it will ease your bowel movements.
Hope i have answered your query. Have a nice day.
