How Can A Post Biopsy Wound Be Treated?

This information requested is for a 67 year old male. My friend just had a skin nodular melanoma biopsy taken at his right temple. He was told after biopsy that the band-aid would fall off after 1 day and put petroleum jelly on it and that s all. The wound was somewhat deep, probably needing more care and cleaning than has been given. The biopsy was taken 1 week ago. He now has what looks like an inflamed rash around most of the biopsy and extending over both eye browns and around both eyes in a symmetrical pattern. It is more on the reddish side than dark pink, inflamed and some what warm. I thought it may look like an infection is underway. What do you think?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxiclav. If there are signs of infection, you can apply topical antibiotics like mupirocin also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
