Hello,

A healthy lifestyle helps maintain the hormonal balance and regular ovarian and menstrual cycles. Simple cysts often happen if ovulation fails to occur and the follicle containing the ovum continues to grow as a fluid-filled space.

Simple cyst up to three cm in size can be managed in a conservative way by just observing for size on ultrasound and your symptoms. These often resolve spontaneously and no operation is necessary. If however pain and other symptoms occur due to increasing size, then they might need to remove or drained through the operation.

I would like to add a word of caution, that the exercise while important, should not be vigorous because sometimes it can trigger twisting of an ovarian cyst. Which can produce severe, sudden pain in the abdomen along with sickness and vomiting? It might necessitate emergency surgery for removal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sabina Hussain
