How Can A Recurrent Rash In The Groin Area Be Treated?

So ever since I can remember I have had this rash on my groin that goes away and comes back maybe once a week or so. It has a smell to it and I can't seem to figure out what it is. I've had it long before the first time I had sex and never really thought about it until now.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Recurrent rash in the groin could be due to exposure to irritants/contact dermatitis, fungal infection, skin infections and sexually transmitted infections, inverse psoriasis. I would suggest to consult the dermatologist and undergo detailed examination, skin scrapping test for microscopy, STD screening test.Specific treatment will depend on the cause.

For fungal infection:

- Application of clotrimazole and steroid application will help.
- Systemic antifungal treatment may require Tablet cetrizine for itching if present
- Wear pure cotton loose inner

Maintain proper hygiene, keep the area clean and dry. Drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.

Hope this may help you. Let me know further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
