Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Over the years, I have been picking at a scab in my nose. Eventually the scab got bigger and I felt better only after removing it. However, now that has led to a small hole in my septum. The size of the hole seems to be less than 0.5 cm in diameter. It does not cause any problems as such on a regular basis just rare whistling when nose becomes extremely dry. What are the chances of it healing on its own if I stop picking at the scab and applying petroleum jelly to it for moisture? And how long will it take to heal?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Some advice that I can give to you is:
-Gently wash the area with mild soap and water to keep out germs and remove debris. -To help the injured skin heal, use petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist. Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab. -Drink liquids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
