How Can A Sore On The Lower Lip Be Treated?

I have a large sore on my lower lip which has been there over a week. My daughter told me to put honey on it and I did for a couple of days. I went to the drug store and got some oral gel and have been applying that and I stopped putting honey on it. The sore is getting worse, more swelling of my lower lip and nasty looking sore place. What do you think?

Hi..Thanks for the query..

As per your complain a large sore on the lower lip, if it is on the inner lip then it can be a canker sore while if it is on the outside of the lip then it can be an abscess caused due to infection..

If it is on the outer lip then you can clean it with antiseptic solution like betadine and apply Triple Antibiotic ointment over it..
If it is painful then you can apply Lidocaine gel over it for relieving pain..
Doing cool compresses can also help in reducing soreness..
A course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers can also be taken to relieve pain and resolve infection..

If it is on the inner lip then do warm saline gargles
Gargles with 1:1 solution of benadryl and milk of magnesia can help..
Apply numbing gel over the sore for relief from pain especially during eating..
Take a multivitamin tablet for a period of 15 days..
Avoid spicy, sour and acidic foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
