Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 year old son woke up yesterday with what appear to be spider bites. He found a small spider, not a recluse or black widow. The are red, raised, now have a small blisterlike head. Itchy. Today has joint aches, most notably in the ankles and heels, but some wrists, elbows, knees. painful to walk(#8 pain while walking). No fever. He also had two almost healed scratches from a branch that both flared up after the bites. Motrin didn t help. Gave 50mg of Motrin this evening, he takes a daily Zyrtec
The spider bite symptoms should not last for more than 24 hours, you should visit ER and get your son examined. The joint pain that he is experiencing is a cause of concern for it may complicate to other pathology if neglected.
The symptoms of inflammation, itch and blister will subside, he can take non-sedating antihistamines (Levocetrizine) once daily for 5 days, Acetaminphen and apply Neomycin Sulphate locally to get rid of itching and blisters. The joint pain is due to the release of Neurotoxin during the bite, he may need antibiotics after physical examination.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
