How Can A Sprained MCL Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with mcl sprain on Tuesday after 4 weeks of knee pain I was put on a Medrol pack and given a hinged knee brace. X-rays were done on my right knee. I am an RN and worked the last two nights. My leg pain increased through out the night as I was getting into my truck I heard a loud snap and had white blinding burning pain in my right knee. I was unable to move it and cannot bear weight. I think I completely tore the mcl ligament. When I am walking my pain is a 10 out of 10 and It makes me cry when I am sitting it is a 5 with continuous pounding and burning. Should I waste my time and money and go to the ED or should I just suck it up and wait till Monday? I also have to work Monday night.

Hello,

MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) tear is not an emergency situation where you should consult any doctor for that.

You still can take any painkillers to reduce pain or paracetamol tablets. MCL repair can be done as day care surgery and is best solution for your problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
