2 years ago I received a cortisone shot in my shoulder! I have Type II diabetes & charcot which my Dr was aware of! I had a half-dollar sized white blister in the middle of my left foot which I asked the Dr before the shot if he wanted to look at it! He recommended I see my podiatrist and refused to look at and proceeded with the injection! 2 days later my foot was red & swollen & 14 days later I was admitted into ICU in critical condition and was told I had 10-12 hrs to live since I was in Septic Shock! MY left leg wasamputated AK and two days later my right leg BK! My question is would you as a doctor administer cortisone to someone with an obvious infection and would you consider it to be Below the standard of reasonable care ?
As per your case history of blister on foot, my treatment advice is:
1. Do not squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm-B cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
